To Gift or Not to Gift

Hello there! 🙂

With the festive season in full-swing around us, most of us often find ourselves in a fix, wondering what to gift someone with! Well, while the tradition of giving and receiving gifts is a practise deeply rooted in the sands of time, one woe most of us face is gifting or being gifted with the same thing(s), year after year. Be it as dry-fruits, or a box of sweets from the locality’s confectioneerit is almost as if we can guess the contents accurately by now, in each wrapped box!

But that said, I will admit that being told, “Oh My Goodness! This gift is amazing! Thank you!!!” is something that all of us want to hear. Well, if you genuinely want people to be that kind of happy because of your gift (whether or not they say it out loud! :P), you might want to read on.

Before I go on, though, I need to make something clear – I happen to be in the midst of a whole lot of gift-exchanges and planning for the upcoming ones. However, this post is NOT about festivals alone. You can use these for birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, graduations… pretty much Anywhere where gifts are involved!

These are simply things to remember and consider while picking a gift for someone the next time. These are not rules, but following these snippets have made a lot of people get sincere gratitude and compliments in the past.

So yes; while it is indeed a wonderful thing to be a part of the gift-exchanging excercise, here are a few things that I’ve seen expert gifters consider (while I keenly stood by and observed them over the years, I may add!), while picking gifts:

  1. Know thy receiver – While this might seem obvious (and slightly less applicable in the case of new acquaintances – in which case cliche gifts are completely acceptable, ok?) paying attention to the receiver’s latest interest or a mention of something they ‘WISH’ they had…. is pretty much a perfect gift, no matter what! 🙂
    But to let you in on a little secret, the Utility of a gift to the receiver must be concidered too – because let’s face it, a one-year old can’t really do much with a beautiful bouquet of flowers except maybe take it apart… right? 😀
  2. When in doubt, go classic – Be it as handing down a family heirloom or buying something as classic as a string of pearls, if you’re gifting someone something that is aspirational for more reasons than one, you’re pretty safe. Yes; we’re talking about ties, jewellery, accessories, home-decor items, etc here.
  3. Get help – If you don’t know the receiver themselves well enough; but do know someone close to them who won’t spill the beans on you, ASK them! What’s  the wordt thing that could happen? – You won’t get help. But, best case scenario, you’ll end up giving them a perfect gift 🙂
  4. Gift-cards – For those people whom you simply HAVE to get a gift, but don’t know of their likes or interests… or even for those who aren’t that close to get any real gifts from you; some Genius human being in the past has thought of this concept where you can pay in advance and let the receiver choose what they want from the store! Crazzzy riiiight? I know 😀
    But jokes apart, rely on gift cards from mostly-all-encompassing stores and bazinga! You’re the new gifting Guru!
  5. The ultimate challenge – While I understand that this is a step most people DREAD to take, in some of my experiences – Asking People What They’d Like is a fantastic way to prevent going wrong. Agreed – a lot of good souls out there are going to reply modestly with “Oh Nothing! Thank you so much!” convincing them of how you are hell-bent on giving them the gift is going to be a great experience for you too! Moreover, if they refuse to listen, give them the ultimatum that if they don’t tell you themselves, you’ll pick for them and that may not go as well!

So there you go, folks! There are many more fine details to note in the art of good gifting, which are enough to fill a book in themselves and hence, have not been shared here. If you have, nonetheless managed to get a fairly good idea on things to consider while getting someone a gift or would like to know some more about giving the right gifts, let me know in the comments below; or at teenxadventurer@gmail.com

Knowing Your Ties

Heya!

As always, Welcome Newbie Reader – or – Welcome Back Existing Reader! 🙂 Hope you’ve been well in the while that I’ve been away for.

Now, why should you be reading what a random blogger has to say about ties, when the last time she herself wore one, was nothing short of years ago? Well, the truth is, you shouldn’t. But now that you’re here, why not read on? 😀 Alright gentleman (or lady!), here we go!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When to Wear A White Tiewhite-tie
Well, I know that these aren’t so common today, but in the ages bygone, the “white tie” attire was considered the “formal eveing dress” for men. Though there are very few events that actually ask for guests to be in literal white ties these days, for any event that is of absolute importance post sun-down, wearing a white tie can really help you contribute subtly to how serious your involvement is.
(Here, it’s supposed to be this guy’s wedding. Also, this guy is supposed to be a 108 year old vampire – so you see how the older peeps still go for white ties? Yeah – same.)
When to Wear a Black Tie black-tie
Initially, wearing a black tie was considered semi-formal. However today, most formal events of various kinds do allow for guests to wear black ties. It has been noted though, that unless it is a corporate event or other such absolutely serious business, a black tie is preferred in the evening.
What to Wear During the Day bright-ties
Depending on how formal the occassion is and the role you are going to be playing in it, you can go in for numerous choices. While a lot has to do with the weather in the material of the tie you choose and also what you are pairing your tie with, it is pretty safe to say that lighter or brighter shades are great choices for occassions during the day. Of course, I don’t mean for you to wear a lime green tie to a funeral, but hey – there’e no denying the edge of a cool light-blue tie with a white shirt or even a pastel tie with a matching shirt, you know? 🙂
What t0 Wear During the Night dark-colour-ties
With fashion designers and lovers going in for free, bold choices round-the-clock, there have been a lot of instances in the past where an unusual choice of tie or component of attire – has made heads turn – for reasons right and wrong alike. Nonetheless, there still exists a faction of the world who prefer to choose classics (thus making them even more classic! 😀 ) and for those among these, a black or dark blue tie is the epitome of evening tie fashion. Despite other options such as burgundy, deep purples and shades of dark greek entering the foray of ‘acceptable colours’ for events in the evening, you know just as well as I do that nothing beats black or blue (pun definitely intended XD).
Other Random Things to Remember for Ties
  1. If you are accompanying someone to an event and the two of you are likely to be together for a majority of the evening, finding one element of your total outfit to match an important element of their attire is a great way. You could wear the same colour of tie as your prom partner’s dress or if your suit is black while your dad has opted for a blue blazer, opt for a tie closer to his shade. This trick works wonders in getting perfect photographs. 🙂
  2. If you are carrying a silk handkerchief (which is highly recommended for formal events and not having one tucked in is often looked down upon, thank you!) then it MUST match your tie. Of course, if you’ve skipped the tie altogether, then you are at liberty – else, a mismatch could be a blunder that sticks out like a sore thumb 😦
  3. Prevent a clash of prints between your tie and your shirt – as this could make your outfit look shabby than put-together, no matter how many hours you spent on it. While self-designs are a completely different story, it is important to balance out the visual effect on the beholder – by going for bold, noticable prints on either the tie – OR the shirt, preferably, never both.
  4. Learn how to tie more than one knot. I cannot emphasise on this hard enough, because there are so many different lengths, materials and kinds in ties, that a knot that you’ve worn all your life on one tie, could look like a disaster on another. Again, based on the kind of tie and the kind of occassion you will be attending, choose the knot you wear.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So there you go folks! These are just a few things about ties that I know a lot of people struggle with. I hope this has helped you in some way, if it hasn’t you smile. If you have any tips, tricks, suggestions, queries or comments, do let me know below, or email me at teenxadventurer@gmail.com 🙂

The Basics of Heels

Hello there! 🙂

If you’re new to my blog, Welcome! And if you’re a regular reader, welcome back! Now, if you’re anyone who knows me even remotely, you’ll know how fond I am of wearing and admiring heels. That said I know a lot of people who need either info about or a refresher in the kinds of heels there are. However, before getting into the deets though, I promise you, dear reader that this is no rocket science . So, with no further fuss – let’s get straight to it 😀

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Stilettos classic-stilettos
There’s a reason why they’re classic – these super genius creations can be worn for any
occassion, with any clothes and they’ll just be perfect. If you don’t own a comfortable pair of these beauties yet, I’m sorry! Stop reading this (Right Now!!!!!!), and go get yourself a pair.
(PS: So long as you’re not being too bold in your choice of colour based on the occassion, these are pretty much the safest bet there can be 🙂 )
2. Peeptoes peeptoe-stilettos
Well, while your Stillettos say “I mean business” like no other shoes, for relatively more laid-back-yet-serious approaches, Peeptoes are your BFFs. Of course, this is not the main reason why you should wear Peeptoes! The main reason? Showing off your UUUUUber-Fabulous pedicure, of course!!
Peeptoes come in all shapes, sizes, textures, colours and levels of comfort. Take a pick and voila! You’re ready to take on the world!! 🙂
3.  Wedges wedges
Can’t afford to take the risk of pointy heels that ring the knells of terror (especially for people like me), owing to unpredictable or bad terrain, a hella lotta walking or both, besides unforeseeable circumstances?
Don’t worry – you can rely on wedges to sail your way right through! Being flat, these babies not only protect you from the dangers of twisting your foot in the case of a mishap, these are also relatively easier on your back! Available in any type and range to suit your need, not having a good pair of wedges is almost as bad as not eating chocolate 😛
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So there you go folks! Back to the basics of heels. Hope this helps! 🙂

If you’d like to know more about the history of heels and iconic moments within the niche of fashion footwear, either let me know in the comments below; or email me at teenxadventurer@gmail.com.

To know more about the do’s and don’ts of wearing heels, stay tuned – the post should come around sometime soon.

What Travelling Taught me

Hey guys!!!!!

Look – no long drawn explainations needed. I’ve been caught up. I really hope you’ve been doing well and without any ado, here is what I learnt while travelling 🙂

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.You can never have enough tissues
Now, I know what you’re thinking – well, everyone knows that! But wait… the reason I’m saying this is because I’ve been in a few sticky situations already and it was a little too nasty to be true. Have a good stock of tissue – the normal kind and even wet tissues if youre willing. If nothing else, just bring them back but you will thank me and all your stars if you ever come across a situation or someone in a situation where those little pieces of paper or cloth can be life saving.
2. Get a map of the place before-hand
I know this is a little weird, but knowing exactly what the closest locations to the place where you are going to be accomodated, is a HUGE bonus that really helped me, especially while travelling alone. Using Google Maps and trying to have a fair idea of the locale can come in super-handy, as I learnt the hard way.
3. Look up people who blog or youtube about or from the place
The very fact that you are reading this is enough to know that you’re the kind that isn’t averse to blogs (or that I know you and am forcing you to read this – which I’m sure has a very “logical” explanation 😀 ) – which means that you can really get first-hand experiences and deets about the place you’re travelling to, from all the wonderful travel-bloggers we have all around us.
4. Know the dresscode
If you are travelling to a place which has a culture of taking dresscodes or certain styles of dressing seriously, knowing a little bit about the pros and cons of certain apparel or attire, will definitely go a long way in helping you stay in the good books of your host city or country.
5. Carry snacks to sustain yourself for a short while
While I hail from a place where going on a trip without food enough to sustain you for a week (even if your trip is only for a couple of days) is a thought most steer clear from, I know there are a lot of people who take a tad bit of time to get used to the “food-shock” as I like to call it, on going to a new place. So brace yourself and don’t regret!
6. Goggles are your besties
Even in the harshest winters, how hard can it be to keep a pair of shades in your carry-on purse?
The benefits, however, include: 1. Swag during impromtu photo-sessions 2. Looking glamourous, effortlessly, even indoors 3. Hiding dark-circles from the previous night’s adventures 4. Maybe a little protection from the sun – sometimes?
7. Some of the best times you’ve had are COMPLETELY unplanned
No explanation needed – but if you haven’t tried going on a completely impulsive walk in the middle of the night with a group of friends, you ARE missing out on Quite a bit, my friend!
8. Have atleast one person know of your whereabouts at all times
From the perspective of safety as well as having someone to call just in case you land up in trouble, keeping just one Reliable person aware of what you’re upto and where, is lets just say – Imperative.
9. Don’t forget to have a good time 😀
I know a lot of us travel for business, work, education and a whole lot of other reasons…. But no matter what the reason and where you’re off to – no matter how stressful the situation or how challenging the difficulty, remember to breathe, let go, enjoy the momnet and have fun. After all, that’s what you’ll look back at and smile about!
City Life
Hey there!
I can’t quite believe that I’m back at typing another post so soon, already, but I don’t mind it at all, and I hope you don’t too!
Well, many of us already know this, but not all of us always take time to appreciate the absolute melting pots of culture our cities are, today. From the way we speak, eat, dress, live, even think! – all of this is affected by a set of multi-faceted dimensions, thanks to our metropolitan cities.
Well, it comes as no surprise, but here are some random shots of cities I have been to – which have left me in awe of the world that we live in. And I’m calling them, city life 🙂
Well, here is what I had to share.
I know this isn’t like most of my other posts, but all these images are mine and not anyone else’s. And the point I’d like to drive home? Simply that all of us have beauty all around us. It’s just that most of us don’t take time to appreciate it.
Here’s to finding the beauty in the most random places and moments.
Until next time,
Keep Calm and Be Fashionable
Colour Blocking
For the bold People We are.
For the bold People We are.
When it comes to this one area, I personally know a lot of people who are highly skeptical and very hesitant to experiment.
Without boring you with a history lesson, if I were to tell you about how this concept came about, it would simply be that:
Interesting people like us, felt the need to break out of the “norms” imposed on fashion, and therefore, went on to incorporate a pop of colour into their everyday styles!
Basically, colour blocking is the process of using or teaming two or more strong, contrasting colours in your combination to voila! get an awesome new design or combo or outfit.  Besides that image I found on Google, given up there ^, here are a few of my personal favourites. Hope you like them. 🙂
Here you go : 😀
clr blckng 02
clr blckng 06 clr blckng 05
clr blckng 04
clr blckng 07
I know you can’t really read that; but the colour rings are what matter
Though there is no end to the number of combinations you can try out in ‘Colour Blocking’, there are just a few of my personal favourites. So fear not, go on and wear what you think looks great, because
If You do, Others Will Too!
Let me know if this was helpful and if there’s anything particular you want to see from my end. 🙂
Also, stay tuned for the next post, and until then,
Keep Calm and Be Fashionable
